Universal Studios Hollywood Reveals New Food, Drink, and Merch For Jurassic World

Universal Studios Hollywood has been overhauling the section of the park that was home to Jurassic Park: The Ride since last fall. While the new updated ride, Jurassic World-The Ride, is the main attraction, Universal Studios today revealed details on new food and drink in the land, as well as some of the merch available.

Isla Nu-Bar and Jurassic Cafe

One of the tiki mugs available from Isla Nu-Bar.

In what I consider to be a wonderful pun on the fictional island from the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World movies, the all new “Isla Nu-Bar” is a new addition to the land, serving an array of tropical tiki drinks. It’s a stand alone, open air bar, that will serve classic tiki drinks like Painkiller’s and Mai Tais as well as their own new creations, both blended or made-to-order. For theme park fans, probably the more interesting part is they’ll be served in one of three collectible tiki mugs: Etched Tiki, Bamboo-styled Tiki, and Tiki God.

The nearby Jurassic Cafe is getting a new overhauled menu. Universal Studios Hollywood Executive Chef Marie Grimm is creating a Costa-Rican inspired menu, based on the setting of the films. Dishes will include options like Slow Roasted Mojo Pork or Spicy Mojo Jackfruit, Fresh Roasted Red Snapper, Chorizo and Potato Empanadas, and Costa Rica’s national dish, Gallo Pinto – traditional rice and beans.

Jurassic Outfitters and On-Ride Video

The Jurassic Outfitters shop is getting a new set of merchandise for sale in honor of the new ride. Expect things like limited editions shirts, mugs and glasses, and hats. They’re also getting into the super fancy merchandise game with custom dinosaur sculptures. From the press release, “these incredibly crafted statement pieces replicate the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Velociraptor, Dilophosaurus, Styracosaurus, Pachycephalosaurus and Triceratops and range in price up to $1,000.”

The other interesting piece of merchandise is that instead of just a traditional on-ride photo, the updated ride will have a slow-motion video of the drop available for purchase. So you while you can still get a picture to capture that one look of terror, you can also now capture the whole sequence (or capture yourself dancing the whole way down, or whatever).

We still don’t have an opening date for the new ride, but the park continues to say it will open this summer. So expect something in the near future (hopefully!). For more information, check out the Universal Studios Hollywood website.
