Following the 2017 closure of Dragon Challenge at Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure Theme Park, Universal announced that the former “dueling” coasters would be replaced with a “new generation of thrill ride” that would open in 2019.

“This all-new thrill ride will take you deeper into J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, where you will encounter some of your favorite characters and creatures,” Universal said on their official park blog. “It’ll be unlike anything we’ve ever done before and it will be fun for the entire family. The new attraction will be one of the most highly-themed coaster experiences we’ve created. It will combine a new level of storytelling with an action-packed adventure…and a few surprises along the way.”

In February, it was announced that the new coaster would be called Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, and today, the new attraction opened to massive fanfare.

Some “fast facts” about Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure.

Universal held a grand opening ceremony on Tuesday, June 11, before opening the attraction to the public today. The ceremony was attended by actors from the Harry Potter film franchise, including Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick), Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood), Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley), Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy), and James & Oliver Phelps (Fred & George Weasley — or George and Fred, not sure which.)

During the opening of Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, many park guests were obviously excited to ride, causing the wait for the new attraction to balloon to 600 Minutes shortly after park opening.

However, based on media previews for the ride, it seems like it will be worth the wait!
