Six Flags Magic Mountain Adding Multi-Launch Racing Coaster West Coast Racers in 2019

At a ceremony Wednesday night, Six Flags Magic Mountain announced their new project for 2019: West Coast Racers. The ride will be a multi-launch racing coaster, and the parks 20th roller coaster. West Coast Racers is a Premier Rides designed coaster, and will be a the second Premier launch coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain.

The coaster is a “mobius” layout, meaning the train will go through both tracks on each circuit. Basically it is two laps, similar to how Twisted Colossus works. The ride will include four launches, and multiple “dueling” elements like high-fives, crossovers, and inversions. It will reach speeds of 55 mph during the race.

The park is partnering with West Coast Customs, the famed custom car shop (maybe best known for “Pimp My Ride”) on the project. West Coast Customs is going to be designing the cars for the coaster trains, and the station house will be modeled after the West Coast Customs shop. In addition, in the middle of the ride (when the train goes from the first track to the second), there will be a themed “pit-stop” as the coaster gets ready for the second lap.

West Coast Racers is going to be built in the area of the park between Ninja and Apocalypse. The whole area will get a revamp, with “a new LA centric urban-themed area where guests will enjoy a high-energy street vibe.” The updates will include new retail and dining, following the park’s pattern over the last several years of updating areas with each new attractions. Surprisingly, this will be the first new roller coaster for the park since Twisted Colossus in 2015, but it will make Magic Mountain the only park with 20 roller coasters.
