Six Flags Great America Announces Holiday in the Park Event

Six Flags Great America today announced plans for its first-ever Holiday in the Park event that will kick off in late November 2018.

Six Flags Great America's Holiday in the Park

This marks the first time in the park’s 42-year history that it will extend its operating season into late November and December. It joins many of the other Six Flags properties that host Holiday in the Park events.

Six Flags Great America’s Holiday in the Park event will feature more than one million LED lights, decorated Christmas trees, thrilling rides, holiday-themed shows, seasonal food and festive decorations throughout the park.

“Six Flags is creating a new season of thrills as the park is transformed into a winter wonderland with a million dazzling lights and all the magical sights, sounds and tastes of the holidays,” said Hank Salemi, Six Flags Great America park president.

“We are excited to extend our operating calendar and make Gurnee the premier place to spend the holiday season.”

Additional highlights of Holiday in the Park at Six Flags Great America include:

  • State-of-the-art light shows
  • Nightly tree-lighting ceremony
  • Select roller coasters and attractions
  • Holiday shows
  • Fire pits for roasting marshmallows and making s’mores
  • Millions of LED lights
  • Photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus

Holiday in the Park at Six Flags Great America will begin on Friday, November 23 and run weekends through Sunday, December 23 and daily December 26 through December 31.

The park has not yet revealed which roller coasters and other rides will operate during Holiday in the Park.

Six Flags Great America tested an extended season last year during the inaugural Last Call Fall Festival, where the park operated on select weekends in November. The park closed early during my visit due to (not really that) inclement weather.

As unpredictable as Chicago’s weather can be in November and December, I hope the park is prepared to remain open during those fluctuating conditions.
