The under-construction Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi this week unveiled new details about the Gotham City-themed section of the indoor theme park, which is scheduled to open in Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island development in summer 2018.
Let’s take a look at the rides and attractions that will comprise Gotham City:
Batman: Knight Flight
The star attraction of the Gotham City area will be Batman: Knight Flight, an enclosed ride taking guests through the “dark skies of Gotham, patrolling the city at Batman’s side.”
Guests will board a robotically controlled Batwing-inspired vehicle to fly over and through Gotham City, completing a variety of turns, spins and rolls thanks to the wide range of motion of the ride vehicles.
The ride’s story will begin at Wayne Tech headquarters where guests are recruited as test pilots.
While the ride’s manufacturer has not been disclosed, the description of the ride leads me to believe it may be a moving robotic arm attraction similar to Forbidden Journey at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter attractions.
Scarecrow Scare Raid
Also calling Gotham City home will be Scarecrow Scare Raid. Details about this ride are murkier, but the park’s website describes it as interactive and “diabolically dizzying.”
My guess is that Scarecrow Scare Raid is a flat ride of some sort.
The Riddler Revolution
A bright green Zamperla disco ride themed to The Riddler will add to the neon vibes of the Gotham City area.
From the rendering, it appears that it will be positioned very close to the pathways, offering guests an opportunity to see the ride in action up-close.
The Joker Funhouse
The Joker Funhouse will subject guests to a “series of physical and mental challenges” from Batman’s arch nemesis, the Joker. The entrance to the walk-through attraction can be seen in the rendering above.
Other Attractions Inside Gotham City
The Gotham City area will also feature shops, eateries and more:
Rogues Gallery Games: a selection of popular midway games themed to the Gotham City pier area.
I’ve included descriptions of the shops and restaurants from the park’s website as they’re too clever not to share:
Mr. Freeze Ice Scream Truck: “Come enjoy some sub-zero sweets and treats in the heart of Gotham City’s industrial zone but be warned, the city’s most chilling villain is known for delivering the ultimate brain freeze.”
Hall Of Doom: “Step into this abandoned subway station and take your pick from a host of tempting dishes drawn from a multitude of world cuisines, specially selected by some of Gotham City’s most feared DC Super-Villains.”
Park Row Pawn Shop: an “old-style pawn shop and choose a memento of your visit to Gotham City; from Arkham Asylum and Wayne Tech prop replicas to Gotham City accessories and more.”
Monarch Theatre Gifts: “Enter the lobby of Gotham City’s most infamous movie palace to pick up popcorn, candy and a memento of your visit inspired by the attractions in Gotham City.”
Cat’s Eye Jewelry: “baubles and finery fit to make every cat burglar purr with delight! No refunds, though, and no guarantees on the origin of the goods…
Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi is expected to open this summer and will feature 29 rides and attractions among its six themed areas. Learn about the other five here.
