Mean Streak at Cedar Point Closing September 16

Cedar Point’s Mean Streak wooden roller coaster will close on Friday, September 16, 2016, the park announced on Twitter today:

Rumors of a Rocky Mountain Construction conversion treatment have swirled around the coaster for months. Others have stated the coaster may go an extensive retracking and refurbishment similar to GhostRider at Knott’s Berry Farm.

Mean Streak opened in May of 1991 at a cost of $7.5 million. It stands 161 feet tall and reaches a top speed of 65 mph as it navigates through a 5,427-foot-long course. Its three trains contain seven cars each seating four riders for a total of 28 riders per train.

For a short time after opening, it featured the tallest lift hill and longest drop on a wooden roller coaster in the world.

The coaster was a product of the Dinn Corporation, which ceased operations the same year Mean Streak opened.

Mean Streak has undergone numerous retrackings throughout its 25+ years of operation.
