Rye’s Playland Park Planning Enhancements, Steel Coaster

Playland Park in Rye, New York, may soon see a new steel coaster and another large attraction, according to the historic park’s soon-to-be management company.

The park was on the verge of closure in the early 2010s. But last year, private company Standard Amusements was named the manager of the county-owned, 80-year-old amusement park.

The private company is proposing a nearly $30 million investment that will go toward new attractions, amenities and more. Westchester County, the owner of the park, will invest $58 million into various park-related projects, including repairs to the park’s dilapidated infrastructure.

Although no specifics regarding the proposed steel coaster have been made public, its (possibly accurate) layout appears to be marked as “10” in the site plan shown above.

Standard Amusements also released artwork which paints a brighter picture for a park with a once-murky future.

The Journal News reports that, despite these plans, delegating management to Standard Amusements is still pending:

A plan is in place to hand over management of the park to Standard, pending approval by the county Board of Legislators of an amended contract that includes a promise Westchester, as landlords, will invest $58 million into the park’s deteriorating infrastructure.
