Aerial Video of Abandoned Six Flags New Orleans

Have you ever wanted to fly over an abandoned amusement park? This is your chance.

Six Flags New Orleans has been abandoned since Hurricane Katrina wreaked havoc on the Gulf Coast in August of 2005. Six Flags removed some of the salvageable coasters and attractions and moved them to other parks. But many of the attractions and nearly all of the infrastructure remains.

While several proposals for reviving the shuttered park have emerged, so far the abandoned amusement park has only seen activity as a film set.

Recently a drone flew over the park and captured incredible video of the decrepit park. The entrance area’s buildings are still intact, but some suffered visible exterior damage during the storm (and in the years following).

From far away, the park’s skyline looks complete: a ferris wheel, skycoaster, wooden coaster and steel coaster rise from the ground. But flying over the park paints a much different picture.

The Jester coaster seems untouched — except for overgrowth surrounding the coaster’s base.

The Mega Zeph wooden coaster still stands, providing a reminder to drivers passing the park that (part of) an amusement park still stands beyond the swamps and trees.
