Coaster101 10-Year Throwback Giveaway: 2009-2010

Coaster101 turns 10 years old tomorrow, and we’re celebrating the site’s past decade this month by looking back at our favorite posts from the past and by giving away TEN Coaster101 Prize Packs! Today, we’re looking back to 2009 and 2010.

The website underwent a number of changes: both cosmetic and structural in nature. We switched from the Joomla content management system (CMS) to the WordPress blogging platform in the summer of 2009. We’ve been with WordPress ever since.

Despite the transitions and changes, we did our best to remain focused on content, and 2009 was an exciting year. We toured an abandoned amusement park. We rode the brand-new Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit at Universal Studios Florida. Our resident engineer wrote a great feature on 3D coaster modeling. And we visited Six Flags Great America after a four-year hiatus.

In 2010, Nick began writing his popular “Coasters-101” series, that turned coaster design, engineering and physics into an easy-to-understand format (be sure to get his book!). We also had the chance to interview Phil “The Ride Guru.” We speculated about what Rollercoaster Tycoon 4 (now Rollercoaster Tycoon World) would entail. We remembered the long-gone Freedomland and we built a Six Flags park with Roller Coaster Tycoon 3.
