Kings Dominion to Rebrand Waterworks as “Soak City” in 2015

Originally opened as “Hurricane Reef” in 1992, Kings Dominion’s in-park water park “Waterworks” will be receiving a face lift, new attractions and a new name for 2015.

Now named Soak City, the water park at Kings Dominion will feature many of the park’s popular water rides and attractions while incorporating three all-new attractions. It will be the fifth water park owned by Cedar Fair to feature the “Soak City” moniker. (Kings Island and Valleyfair each have their own in-park versions, and there are separate Soak City water parks in Sandusky, Ohio and Buena Park, California)

Soak City’s largest addition for 2015 will be a 65-foot tall slide tower that features the three new attractions; Paradise Plunge, Aqua Blast, and Thunder Falls. Each slide will provide riders with a unique riding experience.

Paradise Plunge sends thrill-seekers into an almost vertical free fall as the floor drops out from underneath their feet.

On Aqua Blast, riders are sent twisting and spiraling through an enclosed chute featuring 360-degree turns.

Thunder Falls launches riders in a tube down a series of intense drops and turns.

Starting today, you can visit Kings Dominion’s Facebook page to help name the new mega slide tower that will be home to the three thrilling attractions. Vote for either Hurricane Heights or Tsunami Summit. The name with the most fan votes will be officially announced on Tuesday, February 10.

Soak City will also add Splash Island, a new children’s area that will double the size of the current children’s options in the water park. According to a press release on Kings Dominion’s website, “The family-friendly splash zone will create a magical play environment for children of all ages and abilities. Features include small slides for young children and multiple jets of streaming water that spray up from the ground, as well as overhead. Splash Island allows family members to play, socialize and enjoy the water park experience together.”

In addition, Soak City will feature improved guest amenities to include: Upgraded family changing areas, additional restrooms, expanded deluxe cabanas featuring WiFi and television, and new restaurant concepts designed by Kings Dominion’s Executive Chef, Paul Maloney. The Soak City makeover will also include an updated entrance area and landscaping throughout the 20-acre water park.

“The Soak City expansion shows our investment and commitment to being home to Virginia’s premier water park. We are thrilled to offer two parks for the price of one, which is a great added-value to our guests who appreciate a chance to cool off during our hot summer season,” says Pat Jones, Vice President and General Manager of Kings Dominion. “The new water park will have thrills and chills for every age, creating memories that last a lifetime.”

Soak City is set to open in the spring of 2015 making this the first expansion at Kings Dominion’s water park in eight years.
