The Coaster at Goats On The Roof

Recently, there has been a surge of Alpine coasters being built in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee and the next to open will be The Coaster at Goats on the Roof. Last year, the Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster opened in Pigeon Forge and just a couple of months ago, the Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster opened in Gatlinburg.

thecoasterWe had a chance to talk with the folks at Goats of the Roof about their new addition:

What was the inspiration behind building The Coaster?

Goats on the Roof was an established favorite for locals and tourists alike. We couldn’t think of anything that would be more fun than to combine Goats on the Roof with an alpine coaster!

What do you feel sets you apart from the other alpine coasters in the area?

We have things for the whole family to do. Customers can feed the goats, visit the store, sample some fudge and ice cream, and even go gem mining. You can really spend an afternoon at our attraction. We will only be adding to it as time goes on!

Were there any other names thrown around for the coaster?

We had a big brainstorming session but it all came down to having a short name that people wouldn’t forget.

Were there any obstacles in building over the parking lot?

The engineering team was great. We thought it would be really cool to have it go over the parking lot so customers could see it in action from the road. Our goal was to make as much of the track visible instead of hiding it in the woods. This results in some AMAZING views when you are riding it

Depending on the success of The Coaster, could we see any more alpine coasters or other attractions built at Goats on the Roof?

Definitely, we have tossed around several more ideas that I am sure we will start to build once we get on our feet. Our goal is to really turn the property into a mini amusement park in the coming years.

Was the coaster designed by Wiegland?

Yes Wiegland did all the designing, engineering, and building. They are a great company.

What are your hours of operation going to be?

We don’t know our hours exactly yet. More than likely we will be 10 am – 10pm.

thecoaster2We would like to thank Goats on the Roof for taking the time to talk with us. It sounds like The Coaster could be just the tip of the iceberg for big things to come from this great little stop in Pigeon Forge! Don’t pass up a visit to Goats on the Roof and The Coaster if you are in the area! They are located on Wears Valley Road, just off of the main strip in Pigeon Forge.
