Major Expansion Coming for Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea

Big changes are in the pipeline for Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, according to a news release by Tokyo Disney Resort owner and operator Oriental Land Company.

The plans represent a 500-billion yen ($4.5 billion) investment in the Tokyo Disney Resort over the next ten years.

A major component of the investment includes Tokyo Disneyland Park’s Fantasyland being renovated and expanded. In fact, the expansion will nearly double the size of the themed land.

The expansion will contain an array of new attractions, including a Frozen-themed ride — slated to open in 2017 — according to various news sources. Details are sketchy at this point, but based on the Fantasyland makeover at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, I doubt the attraction will be anything less than spectacular.

Work on the Fantasyland expansion has already begun.

At Tokyo DisneySea Park, a new themed port named “Lost River Delta” will include “major new attractions, restaurants and shops.”

Oriental Land is also planning other improvements at the resort, such as developing “hardware that will enhance the guest experience in the parks;” enhancing dining options; relieving crowd congestion; making infrastructure that protects guests from weather and temperature extremes; and more.
