The giant sorcerer’s hat towering over Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be removed in early 2015.
The Orlando Sentinel reports Disney officials have confirmed what has been rumored for weeks: the 12-story hat that greets guests after they enter the park will be removed, or at least moved, early next year. No specific date has been released.
The giant hat, positioned directly in front of the park’s Chinese Theatre replica, debuted in 2001. It immediately became the park’s signature landmark. But some guests and fans believed the Fantasia-inspired hat ruined the old-Hollywood feel the park attempts to convey.

So its removal could be a step in the right direction.
Though we don’t know official plans, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is undergoing some significant changes. Aside from the hat, we reported that the park’s legendary backlot tour would be closing last month. The American Idol Experience closed this summer. The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow will close November 6th.
