Attraction Awards 2014: Results
The results are in! Below you’ll find this year’s winners and honorable mentions.
Congratulations to all of the nominees, and special thanks to those who nominated and voted.
Best New-for-2013 Attraction
Outlaw Run (Silver Dollar City)
© Silver Dollar City
Featuring the world’s first and only double barrel roll on a wooden roller coaster, Outlaw Run sets the standard as Rocky Mountain Construction’s first “from scratch” wooden roller coaster. With a 16-story drop, a top speed of 68 mph and a number of unique elements, it’s no wonder it’s a 2013 standout. Read our review of the coaster here.
Honorable Mention: Gatekeeper (Cedar Point)
Best Park Entrance
Cedar Point
With the opening of the Gatekeeper wing coaster came a brand new entrance for Cedar Point in 2013. And with shiny blue B&M track stretching across it, Cedar Point’s new entrance is a coaster enthusiast’s dream come true.
Honorable Mention: Magic Kingdom
Best Park Scent
Funnel cake
Is any explanation necessary? The irresistible aroma released from the fried batter along with the powdered sugar topping speaks — or smells — for itself.
Honorable Mention: Trapper’s Smokehouse (Busch Gardens Williamsburg)
Best Sweet Treat
Butterbeer (The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Islands of Adventure)
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey may technically be the star attraction of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, but Butterbeer addicts may disagree. The Harry Potter beverage of choice is sold cold or frozen. Apparently ordering both is the best way to get the full Butterbeer experience.
Honorable Mention: Dole Whip (Disneyland and Magic Kingdom)
Best Theme Park Smartphone App
My Disney Experience
Disney continues to redefine the theme park-going experience with the My Disney Experience mobile app that “lets you view and update your plans, make dining reservations, search maps of all four theme parks, get real-time attraction wait times and more,” according to the My Disney Experience website.
Honorable Mention: Cedar Point mobile app
Best “Under 100-Footer” Steel Coaster
Revenge of the Mummy (Universal Studios Florida)
Universal Studios Orlando’s Revenge of the Mummy celebrates its tenth year of operation in 2014. And as this year’s results show, the indoor Premier launched coaster is still a crowd favorite.
Honorable Mention: Verbolten (Busch Gardens Williamsburg)
