Banshee Receiving its Lift Chain

Unfortunately, it’s not often that an amusement park builds a mammoth Bolliger & Mabillard inverted coaster. Watching Kings Island’s Banshee rise over the past few months has been quite exciting. And we have to give props to Kings Island’s PR department — their team has kept us posted with each chapter of Banshee’s construction, even after the track itself was completed.

Yesterday, the park sent us photos of the coaster’s 167-foot-tall lift hill receiving its chain lift.

In just a few months, trains full of 32 riders will be hoisted up to the top of the towering lift hill.

Although I’m sure the ascent on Banshee’s lift hill will be quiet terrifying, installing the chain itself seems a bit more intimidating (for an amateur like myself, at least).

Kings Island is investing $24 million in Banshee, which “will be the longest inverted roller coaster in the world,” according to the park. Riders will scream their way through 4,124 feet of track and seven inversions at speeds up to 68 mph.

The first of Banshee’s three trains will arrive at the park next week, the park announced via Facebook. I am sure that we will receive an update from the park when it does. Stay tuned!

You can watch an update from the park’s VP of Maintenance here.

Banshee is scheduled to open on April 18, 2014. Will you be riding the coaster on opening day? Share in the comments section below.
