Luna Park Prepares for the 2014 Season

A warm, sunny day spent at a beach-side amusement park is hard to imagine when you’re shoveling snow. Last week, a “polar vortex” struck most of the United States with snow and below-freezing temperatures. But despite the cold, many park employees are already hard at work preparing rides and infrastructure for the season.

Coney Island’s Luna Park has kept fans on Facebook updated by posting photos of the off-season maintenance underway.

In 2012, Great Coasters International (GCI) performed a significant refurbishment of the historic coaster’s track.

Work continues on the coaster, but in just a few months, it will be welcoming riders once again.

Luna Park’s Scream Zone park is also bustling with activity. Above, a few of the park’s Steeplechase coaster trains have been uncovered.
