A warm, sunny day spent at a beach-side amusement park is hard to imagine when you’re shoveling snow. Last week, a “polar vortex” struck most of the United States with snow and below-freezing temperatures. But despite the cold, many park employees are already hard at work preparing rides and infrastructure for the season.
Coney Island’s Luna Park has kept fans on Facebook updated by posting photos of the off-season maintenance underway.
Coney Island’s historic Cyclone coaster is receiving much-deserved attention.
Here, a piece of the 87-year-old coaster’s track is taken to an indoor maintenance bay for careful inspection.
In 2012, Great Coasters International (GCI) performed a significant refurbishment of the historic coaster’s track.
Work continues on the coaster, but in just a few months, it will be welcoming riders once again.
Luna Park’s Scream Zone park is also bustling with activity. Above, a few of the park’s Steeplechase coaster trains have been uncovered.
Scream Zone’s Soarin’ Eagle station will be packed with riders in less than three months. The Zamperla flying coaster originally operated at Elitch Gardens.
