The Adventuredome’s twisted new indoor coaster, El Loco, will open late next month, the park has announced.

Accompanied by a customized soundtrack, some of El Loco’s unique elements include:

  • 90-foot ascent followed by a greater-than-90-degree diving drop producing a negative 1.5 “vertical G”
  • 45-degree outwardly banked curve
  • 180-degree turn that races over the edge into a barrel roll

The S&S Worldwide, Inc. “El Loco” coaster is the second of its kind in the United States. The first was Steel Hawg at Indiana Beach.

The final piece of El Loco track will be laid next week, but one of the 4-person cars that will speed around 1,300 feet of electric yellow track is already on display at the indoor theme park. Its small, open-carriage cars allow for tighter, faster turns.

But before anyone can ride, El Loco must undergo more than 2,000 safety test rides.

“As with all our rides, safety is our number one concern,” said Tom Nolan, vice president of operations for The Adventuredome. “El Loco has a number of unique elements that make it a thrill-a-second ride, and this extensive testing process will ensure that every rider has a safe and fun experience.”

El Loco is expected to open in late January 2014. Stay tuned to The Adventuredome website for more information.
