Down in Emerson, Georgia, just north of Atlanta, a new sports complex is being constructed. LakePoint Sporting Community will be unlike any other complex of its type. It will feature over 1,400 acres of state-of-the-art facilities for youth sports and other developments. One of those being the United States’ first “Polercoaster.”
Last year at IAAPA the Polercoaster was introduced by creator Bill Kitchen. The idea combines an observation tower with a roller coaster, that can be built to extreme heights. The one at LakePoint, however, will be just over 325 feet tall and will feature a restaurant at the top. The coaster will feature multiple loops, barrel rolls and high speed turns. It will be the tallest coaster in the Southeast and will become one of the top-10 tallest in the States.
LakePoint hopes to create a visual icon for the complex that will thrill visitors and keep them coming back. Other attractions in the complex will include a Bass Pro Shop, Greg Norman Golf Academy, a Coca-Cola Powerade Sports Safety and Hydration Lab and many other stores and restaurants.
Currently there is no proposed opening date for the Polercoaster, but the LakePoint Sporting Complex is planning on opening in phases, starting next year. What are your thoughts on this new ride? Will you make a trip to Georgia to give it a try?
There had been a proposal to build world tallest observation tower and polercoaster in Las Vegas or a different U.S. city. Not sure if that idea has got off the ground or not.
There’s no telling if the proposed LakePoint Sporting Complex could be planning an independent theme park, with the proposed polercoaster and observation tower attraction. It be a theme park with rollercoasters, flat rides, drop tower ride, water rides, waterpark, and so forth… and it compete with Six Flags Over Georgia (Austell, GA) and Wild Adventures (Valdosta, GA).
I’m aware of Six Flags adding Lex Luthor: Drop Of Doom drop tower ride to existing Superman: Escape From Krypton coaster at SFMM… and is adding Zumanjaro: Drop Of Doom ride to existing Kingda Ka at SFGADV. I wonder if Six Flags could get the idea of adding a polercoaster to existing Oil Derrick observation tower at SFOT… and maybe SFMM observation tower and museum getting a polercoaster added as well… not sure about SFGAM’s observation tower attraction getting a polercoaster either. Those could be interesting ideas… if it can be done.
