Anxiety and adrenaline don’t consume me before riding a roller coaster like they did when I was younger. I can’t think of a roller coaster that I would be afraid to ride.
However, that anxiety and adrenaline of long ago returned with a vengeance as I waited to plunge on Six Flags Great America’s “Mega Wedgie” slide in 2011. The Mega Wedgie/Dive Bomber slide complex uses the same “drop gate” technology of Six Flags America’s recently opened Bonzai Pipeline.
The adrenaline that results from waiting for the “trap door” of sorts to fall from beneath you is dizzying. The trip down is fast, but the prolonged seconds waiting to plunge make the entire ride time seem longer.

I doubt water slides will ever replace roller coasters as the ultimate thrill rides, but ProSlide’s “SkyBox” slides make me sweat unlike any roller coaster has in years.

I’ve had the chance to ride two different White Water West versions, Noah’s Ark’s Scorpion’s Tail, and the triple slide tower at World’s of Fun. Even after having ridden these types of slides 10+ times, stepping into the drop capsule is still just as exhilarating. I’d compare it to a SCAD Tower or a SkyCoaster waiting to drop.
