A-Z Coaster of the Week: Full “YOLO” Throttle

We travel to California for this week’s A-Z Coaster of the Week: the soon-to-open Full Throttle at Six Flags Magic Mountain, sometimes called the “YOLO coaster.”

The “YOLO” (You Only Live Once) motto was first introduced in the Full Throttle announcement video that the park released. Fans have latched on to the “YOLO” acronym even though it has no direct ties to the ride name.

The Premier-built launching coaster will launch riders at 70 mph into a 160-foot-tall vertical loop, the tallest of its kind in the world. The ride also includes a dive loop inversion immediately after the vertical loop.

Following the dive loop, riders will enter a tunnel formerly used by the park’s monorail. The train will come to a halt before launching backwards out of the tunnel partially up the dive loop. The train will lunge forward before launching again up the top hat element which travels directly above the coaster’s vertical loop.

Construction workers completed the iconic loop/tophat element last month as seen in the above photo.

The coaster will be located near the front of Six Flags Magic Mountain where it will anchor a new five-acre “high energy” area featuring “fast-paced imagery, sound and lights.”

Cars of the 18-seat trains recently arrived at the park. Hopefully testing will begin shortly.
