skyrush_51

Who could forget the Ride Institute of Technology website? Hersheypark’s elaborate viral campaign for its 2012 coaster, Skyrush, began in October 2010, over a year before the coaster was due to open. Fake websites, puzzles and more led fans on a quest to gather all the clues leading up to the coaster’s announcement.

Honorable Mentions (tie): Full Throttle (Six Flags Magic Mountain) and Gatekeeper (Cedar Point)

Best 2012/2013 Attraction Logo

Gatekeeper (Cedar Point)

Gatekeeper’s logo is intimidating, mythical and memorable. These elements combine to make a standout ride logo which will no doubt remain a Cedar Point staple for years to come.

Honorable Mention: Iron Shark (Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier)

Best Skip-the-Line System

Fastpass (Disney Parks)

fastpass

Disney’s Fastpass ride reservation system debuted in late 1999, and is free of charge for all Disney park guests. The system uses complex mathematical formulas to generate a time for guests to return to the attraction, allowing them to virtually wait in line.

Honorable Mention: Flash Pass (Six Flags)

Favorite Park Mascot

Kozmo (Knoebels Amusement Resort)

kozmo

Knoebels’ adorable longtime mascot, Kozmo, can be found throughout the park interacting with guests. The chipmunk character can also be seen on promotional materials and the park’s website. The park recently introduced Kozmo’s pal, Dexter, but Kozmo will always hold a special place in our hearts for being the park’s original mascot.

Honorable Mention: Mickey Mouse (Disney Parks)

Coaster With the Best Natural Setting

Iron Rattler (Six Flags Fiesta Texas)

ironrattler3

Strategically located on a quarry, Six Flags Fiesta Texas’ Iron Rattler features one of the most unique settings for a wooden roller coaster. Originally known simply as Rattler, the coaster will soon reopen as Iron Rattler featuring new track, an altered layout, a barrel roll inversion and more.

Honorable Mention: Twister (Knoebels Amusement Resort)

Congratulations again to all of this year’s winners, and thanks to all the nominators and voters. We look forward to next year’s Attraction Awards!
