Which Super Bowl Team Has the Better Home Park?

Today the Baltimore Ravens battle the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl. But as a roller coaster-oriented website, we must ask ourselves: which team has the better home amusement park? Both teams’ home parks are owned by Six Flags, but the two parks are very different.

Around 30 miles from Baltimore is Six Flags America. The park opened as the Largo Wildlife Preserve in 1974 and underwent many transformations before being branded as Six Flags America in 1999. Although Six Flags owns over 500 acres of land in and around Six Flags America, the park sits on around 131 acres.

The park is home to eight roller coasters:

  • Boomerang Coast to Coaster
  • Cobra
  • Kong
  • Medusa
  • Roadrunner Express
  • Roar
  • Superman Ultimate Flight
  • V2: Vertical Velocity

The park also features a Hurricane Harbor water park.

San Francisco’s “home park” is considered by most to be Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, California. The park opened in 1968 as Marine World. Later known as Six Flags Marine World after Six Flags purchased the park, it underwent a major re-branding in 2007 and was renamed Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. The park encompasses around 135 acres and is home to not only rides, but also a number of animal exhibits and shows.

The park also includes eight coasters:

  • Apocalypse
  • Batwing Steel
  • Great Chase
  • Joker’s Jinx
  • Mind Eraser
  • Roar
  • Superman: Ride Of Steel
  • Wild One

The park’s Facebook page has some great pictures of the animals showing support for the 49ers.

Both parks received a coaster for the 2012 season. Six Flags America opened Apocalypse, the relocated Iron Wolf standup coaster from Six Flags Great America. Six Flags Discovery Kingdom opened Superman: Ultimate Flight, a unique Premier launching coaster.
