Kentucky Kingdom May Open in 2014

The Kentucky Kingdom Redevelopment Company (KKRC) is one step closer to reopening the shuttered Kentucky Kingdom amusement park. Local news reports that the Kentucky State Fair Board unanimously approved a lease agreement deal that will allow the park to reopen in 2014.

The Save Kentucky Kingdom Facebook page also shared the exciting news:

“Another major hurdle has been eliminated!!! Fair Board has approved lease for KKRD. Unanimous vote in favor of the lease conditions.”

Under the deal, investors would pour $45 million into the park ($25 million would be borrowed). The KKRC would have an initial 50-year lease on the land. They would control 57 acres of land as well as 4 acres designated for a waterpark expansion. The KKRC will pay rent to the state each year, and the state will own all rides and improvements made to the park.

Kentucky Kingdom has stood dormant since Six Flags closed the park in 2009.

This sounds like great news for a park that has been a rollercoaster ride in itself over the past few years.
