The out and back layout was designed by Custom Coasters (CCI) and was their third ride to open.

Indiana Beach wanted to preserve as much land as possible so CCI engineered a network of piers and platforms and built the ride partially over Lake Shafer, existing buildings, and the park’s Kiddieland. The Hoosier Hurricane was the first modern wooden roller coaster built with a steel support structure, the start of a trend that still continues today.Hooiser Hurricane steel structure

The 3000 foot long coaster even includes a dive under the park’s suspension bridge.
