More on the New York Wheel

Last month we posted about a giant ferris wheel proposed for New York City. That wheel now has its very own website with more information about the specifics of the project.

The ferris wheel will be located on the northeastern side of Staten Island and will stand 630 feet tall.

The wheel will contain 36 capsules, each holding 40 passengers. The wheel will rotate at a speed of 10 inches per second, making the average ride time around 38 minutes.

4.5 million visitors are expected to take a spin on The New York Wheel each year. Operators hope to operate the wheel 365 days a year.

Construction is expected to begin in early 2014, with a target opening date of New Years Eve in 2015. No doubt the attraction will offer unprecedented views of New York City. We can’t wait to see vertical construction begin.
