Disaster Transport Closing for a Cause

Cedar Point announced today that the Disaster Transport coaster and Space Spiral observation tower will close permanently on July 29, 2012 to make way for that somewhat-announced 2013 wing coaster.

Cedar Point’s Facebook post reads: “Something big is happening. Disaster Transport & Space Spiral will be dismantled this season to make space for @!!$!(*%%. We’re sad to see them go, but are excited as we fly into the future. Stay tuned for more!” (Does “@!!$!(*%%” mean that the new coaster will be named after a curse word, or is this a code for something much more complex?)

But Disaster Transport won’t go out without a bang. First Giving will hold “Disaster Transport Final Dispatch: A Mission for the Kids” on the night of July 29th as both a celebration of Disaster Transport and a fundraiser for children with life-threatening illnesses.

The Disaster Transport event page states: “Participation includes complimentary all-day park admission for non-season passholders, an hour of exclusive ride time on Disaster Transport, VIP access to a private reception, a commemorative event t-shirt, a special souvenir and eligibility for the the last ride with the lights on. The top three fundraisers will also receive prizes!”

The event will include exclusive ride time, and a final lights-on ride for the 50 participants raising the most money. Interested in this event? See here.

I think this is a great way to “celebrate” the life of Disaster Transport while also raising money for a spectacular cause. Kudos to Cedar Point and First Giving for working this out!
