Drum roll please… the winners of our apocalyptic-themed Attraction Awards can be found below. Congratulations to all of the winners!
Best Indoor Coaster
Revenge of the Mummy at Universal Studios Florida
Opening in 2004, Revenge of the Mummy thrust Universal Studios Florida into the coaster spotlight with its intense launch, backwards section, and incredibly-detailed theming.
Honorable Mention: Rock ‘n Roller Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Best Dark Ride (non-coaster)
Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
What’s better than combining a dark ride with a drop tower? The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror has thrilled Disney’s Hollywood Studios guests since its opening in 1994 and is still considered as one of the most popular attractions at the Walt Disney World resort.
Honorable Mention: The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman at Islands of Adventure
Favorite “I Can’t Believe It’s Still Standing” Coaster
Son of Beast at Kings Island
A problem child from day one, Son of Beast has made a name for itself as being one rough coaster. Not so surprisingly, the coaster has been closed since 2009 and its future is currently unknown.
Honorable Mention: Disaster Transport at Cedar Point
Best “Last Ride” Coaster
Millennium Force at Cedar Point
Appearing on the top of top steel coaster lists around the world, it’s no surprise that Millennium Force at Cedar Point would make for one heck of a “last ride” if the apocalypse were upon us. At a height of 310 feet, you might even be able to see the end of the world coming!
Best Halloween Event
Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida
The classic Halloween Horror Nights event at Universal Studios Florida will celebrate its 22nd year in 2012, and it’s no doubt that it will be one bone-chilling, terrifying Halloween event as always.
Honorable Mention: Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens Williamsburg
Best Abandoned Amusement Park
Freestyle Music Park / Hard Rock Park
The third time’s a charm, right? Perhaps this will be the case if Freestyle Music Park, originally known as Hard Rock Park, ever reopens. The park has stood dormant since closing in 2009.
Honorable Mention: Geauga Lake
Best Park for Zombie Movie
Six Flags Magic Kingdom
With seventeen coaster situated on or around a giant mountain, it’s no wonder Six Flags Magic Mountain was voted to be the best setting for an apocalyptic zombie movie. There would be ample hiding spots for zombies to prey on whoever was left (alive) in the park.
Honorable Mention: Kennywood & Six Flags Great America
Congratulations to all of this year’s Attraction Awards winners!
