Announcement Week – Day One Summary

This week is announcement week in the amusement park industry and we’ve had several exciting news items today already.

Thorpe Park – The Swarm

First up, Thorpe Park officially announced The Swarm today, a B&M Wing Rider coaster, similar to the one that opened this year at Gardaland, which was named Raptor.  While the trains will be the same, the ride layout and elements will be unique.

The ride itself will seat riders out over the edge of the track – leaving nothing below them but the ground.  The first drop will start at 127 feet in the air, only to fully invert you then drop into a half loop. Thorpe Park has set up a website for the coaster, which currently features a video.

Six Flags Great America – American Eagle Backwards

Six Flags Great America made their semi-big announcement today, and they’re excited to let everyone know that the American Eagle will be running it’s blue train backwards from August 8th until September 17th. And that’s not all, according to their Facebook page “If you liked guessing this announcement, just wait until later this fall…”

Carowinds Expansion

After recently purchasing some land next to Dorney Park, Cedar Fair has once again expanded their portfolio by snatching up 61 acres adjacent to Carowinds, to be used for future growth and expansion of the property. Onsite hotel or indoor waterpark?
