Christmas Events: Smoky Mountain Christmas at Dollywood

While we haven’t been able to cover every Christmas event that can be found at parks arcoss America (let alone the rest of the world!), I thought Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas would be a great way to conclude this series. I regret to say, though, that even though I’ve lived in Tennessee most of my life, I’ve never been able to make the trek to the other side of the state to experience Dolly’s Christmas event.

Dollywood’s website does a great job describing the event: “4 million lights drape the park in holiday splendor, casting a warm glow that sets the scene for a winter wonderland like no other.  Create a family tradition at Dollywood’s sensational shows, including the triumphant return of perennial favorites Dollywood’s Babes in Toyland and Christmas in the Smokies.  Let the heartwarming sounds of the season set the stage for a Christmas the entire family will enjoy.”

What the park says is its “most elaborate stage show ever,” Babes in Toyland features 20 performers and a fully-orchestrated musical score. The show follows characters “Alan” and “Jane” on a journey through toyland. Acrobatics, puppetry, and spectacular scenery make this show incredibly popular at the park.

Dollywood offers The Polar Express 4-D Experience, a 4D attraction based off the book and feature film, The Polar Express. “When a doubting young boy takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole, he embarks on a journey of self discovery that shows him that the wonder of life never fades for those who believe.”

What is Christmas without a parade? The Parade of Lights at Dollywood features Christmas floats adorned with lights, and Holiday characters greet onlookers.

Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas runs until January 1, 2011.
