Kentucky Kingdom to reopen

A group led by Ed Hart, the original operator of the former Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, has been approved to regain ownership of the park:

The Courier-Journal of Louisville reported Thursday, the board voted unanimously for a proposal from Ed Hart and his KK Redevelopment Company, which rescued Kentucky Kingdom from bankruptcy more than a decade ago.

Fair board chairman Harold Workman, said rehabilitation of the 58-acre park in southwestern Louisville, could cost up to $20 million. He says the fair board plans to borrow the money through a bond issue, with Hart contributing up $3 million.

Six Flags, which has filed for bankruptcy protection, announced in February, it was closing Kentucky Kingdom. The fair board and Six Flags must negotiate ownership of rides and attractions.
