Before Mount Olympus of the Wisconsin Dells was, well, Mount Olympus it was known as Big Chief Karts and Coasters.
When I visited, the park consisted of a bunch of go kart tracks and the newly opened Cyclops wooden roller coaster.
In 2004, Big Chief Carts and Coasters owner Nick Laskaris decided with the addition of roller coasters to change the park name to Mt. Olympus Theme Park and go with a Greek-Roman theme. Later that year, Mt. Olympus merged with Monte Mattei’s Treasure Island Waterpark Resort (consisting of Treasure Island’s Family Land Waterpark & Bay of Dreams Indoor Waterpark) to create the Dells’ only mega-park, Mt. Olympus Water and Theme Park. To accomplish the physical connection between these two separated attractions, they bought the Playday Motel and demolished it so that they could create a pathway from the resort to the amusement park.
cool, Just went to the dells for the 1st time since the late 90’s Man, that place is ruined….
I personally haven’t been back since. Why do you say it is ruined, Jake?
Mount Olympus pretty much has a monopoly on that entire strip in the Dells, and it seems to be expanding. They have purchased many surrounding hotels, theme parks, restaurants, etc. and have made one poorly maintained resort city. You might get many attractions for your money but it is also dirty and overcrowded, and really has squashed many of the beautiful eclectic treasures of the city. I haven’t been in several years now either– I hope that it’s changed for the better.
