According to the Commercial Appeal, deconstruction began yesterday of the nation’s second-oldest roller coaster and Elvis Presley’s favorite coaster, the Zippin Pippin. Since 1912, the Zippin Pippin thrilled guests until it was closed along with Libertyland in October 0f 2005. It has been standing still since that date.
Thankfully the coaster is being dismantled in a gentle fashion in hopes that it can someday find a buyer, but until then, a huge piece of Memphis history vanishes into storage.
