After promising several record breakers and “firsts” with their 2018 announcements, Six Flags announced today that two of those “firsts” would be coming to Six Flags Over Texas and Six Flags Great Adventure next season, as they open the first “Tourbillon” attractions in North America.
Manufactured by Swiss engineering company ABC Rides, the Tourbillon made its debut in France in 2015, and is coming to North America next year as Harley Quinn Spinsanity at Six Flags Over Texas and Cyborg Cyber Spin at Six Flags Great Adventure.
Both rides are inspired by the movement of a gyroscope, and promise to deliver a new level of thrills with unpredictable, gravity-defying flips, twists and turns.
The tourbillon attraction features a unique futuristic triple box design that allows the gondola to spin around three separate axes while rotating forward, backwards and sideways simultaneously at up to 70 feet in the air for intense and continuous movement. Seated 24 across with over-the-shoulder harnesses, riders will experience a thrilling combination of negative and positive gravitational forces.
“Six Flags leads the industry in thrill ride innovation; it is part of our DNA,” said Park President Neal Thurman. “Six Flags Great Adventure is home to an unparalleled collection of record-breaking attractions and we are excited to be adding Cyborg Cyber Spin, the first of its kind in North America. Like the Super Hero Cyborg of the Justice League, this futuristic, hi-tech ride will be unlike anything our guests have ever seen or experienced before and it is the perfect new thrill ride to expand our new Metropolis section.”
Six Flags Over Texas Park President Steve Martindale echoed Thurman’s sentiments.
“Once again, Six Flags is the leader in thrills with the most innovative, record-breaking rides and attractions in the industry. As the company’s flagship park, Six Flags Over Texas is home to a long list of world records and world’s firsts and we take great pride in continuing our legacy of one-of-a-kind thrills for all ages,” he said. “Harley Quinn Spinsanity is sure to captivate guests with each sinister spin. This fascinating new ride will be perfectly placed with our other DC Super-Villain-themed rides, including The Joker, Catwoman Whip and Riddler’s Revenge in the Gotham City section of the park.”
Both rides will feature:
- Unpredictable flips and pivots at heights up to seven stories (70 feet) above the ground
- Unnerving floorless seats that leave riders’ feet dangling as they whirl through the air
- A dazzling nighttime light display
Both attractions are scheduled to debut some time in Spring 2018. Cyborg Cyber Spin will be located in Six Flags Great Adventure’s Metropolis Area, while Harley Quinn Spinsanity will be located in Six Flags Over Texas’ Gotham City section.
