Six Flags announced that both Discovery Kingdom and La Ronde will be getting new giant pendulum type rides for 2017.

In the case of Discovery Kingdom, the ride will be another entry in their growing DC collection, named Wonder Woman Lasso of Truth. The ride will be located near the parks two signature DC attractions, Superman Ultimate Flight and the new RMC coaster, Joker.

“It is our intention to open new, innovative attractions every season,” said Don McCoy, park president. “Wonder Woman is an iconic Super Hero and this character and thrill ride will add greatly to our line-up of DC themed attractions.”

Technically the area isn’t DC themed, but the “Tsunami Soaker” nearby was rebranded as a Penguin ride when Joker opened, so the park is definitely focused on getting that corner of the park consistent. We’ll try to see exactly where it’s located when we visit the park in a couple of weeks.

At La Ronde, the ride will be called Titan, themed after the giant Greek mythological creatures.

“We are very excited with the addition of Titan to La Ronde’s lineup of rides and attractions. This new thrill ride contributes to a wider offering for families and thrill-seekers in 2017,” said Phil Liggett, President of La Ronde.

Both rides will tower about 147 feet in the air, swinging riders back and forth while also spinning them counterclockwise. They’ll carry 40 riders, whose feet will dangle below the ride, and reach speeds of up to 70 miles per hour. They will have a 240 degree rotation around the pendulum, giving riders a feeling of weightlessness at the apex of the swing. Based on the stats it looks like these are Giant Discovery models from Zamperla.

No specific release dates were announced for the rides, but it’s probably safe to assume they’ll be opening around May next year. More information on Wonder Woman can be found here, and more on Titan here. While we don’t have a release date, Six Flags is running a flash sale on season passes for the 2017 season (and the rest of 2016) as part of the announcement, so check out your local Six Flags’ website for the latest offer if you’re thinking of getting a season pass for next year, might be a good deal.
