Storm Chaser Nears Completion at Kentucky Kingdom

The coaster season is fast approaching, and construction crews at Kentucky Kingdom are wasting no time pushing towards completion of Storm Chaser, the Rocky Mountain Construction steel hybrid coaster formerly known as Twisted Twins.

The 140-degree stall and overbank dive are both complete and looking fantastic. I still can’t get over the clearance on these elements. Headchoppers, anyone?

Yeah, I’ll be ducking.

The “corked roll” inversion is receiving its finishing touches.

In front of the lift is one of the probably tamer elements on the ride: an airtime hill…

…and with elements named “twisted airtime,” it’s easy to believe that a standard airtime hill is now old-fashioned.

Here’s a lot (but not all) of the 2,744 feet of Storm Chaser track.

And towering above is the 10-story lift hill and “barrel roll downdrop” that will kick things off.

Special thanks to Jason Slone for sharing these photos with us!

Ledgers are in place for nearly all of the yet-to-be-installed track pieces. Hopefully it won’t be long before the track is complete and testing begins.

Kentucky Kingdom opens for the 2016 season on April 30. For more information, visit the park’s website.
