Cedar Point Repainting Top Thrill Dragster, Raptor

Cedar Point is repainting two of its steel coasters, the park announced via a funny blog post yesterday. Raptor and Top Thrill Dragster will both sport fresh coats of paint by the end of the 2016 season. And they could definitely use the refreshing:

While Raptor’s repainting should be complete before the 2016 season begins, Top Thrill Dragster’s 420-foot-tall structure will require a longer painting process:

Because Top Thrill Dragster is such a monster to conquer, and nobody makes rollers and ladders tall enough, this process will take two seasons.

Through the rest of the fall, crews will paint the lower sections of track (the launch, the return brake run and the support columns), and in the spring, painting will resume on the rest of the structure.

Due to sketchy weather, it’s entirely possible that this project could go well into the fall of 2016. But the wait will be worth it.

Crews have already begun power-washing Top Thrill Dragster’s track to prepare for the new paint:

While Tony teased in the blog post that both coasters would sport new color schemes, he later admitted that both would retain their current color schemes.

Kudos to Cedar Point for focusing on additional park improvements aside from the new-for-2016 Valravn dive coaster.
