Cedar Point Readies Rougarou

Mantis who? Cedar Point is full steam ahead with the conversion of the Mantis stand-up coaster into the floorless, sit-down Rougarou.

Watch the video below to get a behind-the-scenes look at crews putting the finishing touches on the revamped coaster, including the sleek new floorless trains:

I can’t wait to see the “thematic elements” discussed in the video in action once the coaster opens.

Like its predecessor, Rougarou stretches 3,900 feet, stands 145 feet tall and includes four inversions: a vertical loop, dive loop, inclined loop and a corkscrew.

According to Wikipedia, a rougarou is a “legendary creature in Laurentian French communities linked to European notions of the werewolf.”

Mantis opened in 1996 and was “retired” in October:

The new floorless trains should improve rider experience over the sometimes jarring, clunky Mantis stand-up trains:

The park recently shared the below “under the hood” photo of Rougarou’s floor mechanism that will allow guests to easily board the floorless trains:

Rougarou is scheduled to open May 9, 2015. To see how you can be one of the first to ride the now-floorless coaster, see the Rougarou First Rider Auction.
