This time, it is not an April Fool’s Joke.
Six Flags announced today that they are partnering with Meraas Leisure and Entertainment LLC to open a new Six Flags Branded theme park in Dubai. According to a press release, the project is planned to open in late 2017 and will be located within the multi-themed park project in Jebel Ali launched by Meraas.
While financial terms were not disclosed, Six Flags Chairman/President/CEO Jim Reid-Anderson said “We are honored to be working with this world-class organization as the first significant strategic step taking the Six Flags brand to growing and successful markets outside North America.”
Raed Al Nuaimi, Chief Leisure and Entertainment Officer, Meraas Leisure and Entertainment echoed Reid-Anderson’s statement by saying: “We are delighted to have a world-leading theme park company and a brand like Six Flags on board. We are confident their presence will perfectly complement our project and further enhance our overall offerings in the leisure and entertainment space.”
Sadly this is less believable than the Orlando joke. the UAE may not have a lot of parks and would be a solid market I admit. But the absolutely amazing creativity of names (sarcasm), and the fact that not many people go to Dubai, it’s local to them. But the other two foreign Six Flags parks (Six Flags Belgium and Six Flags Holland) were sold off, so I don’t exactly see them hanging onto the park like with those and Elitch Gardens.
