Vortex, the 1987 Arrow looping coaster at Kings Island, reached a new milestone yesterday when the coaster gave its 40 millionth ride.
The coaster was the first to turn riders upside down six times. Riders have inverted more than 240,000,000 times while riding the Vortex since its debut.
According to Kings Island, the only attractions at the park to give more rides are “the Racer (98 million), Kings Island and Miami Valley Railroad (50 million), Beast (47 million), Woodstock Express (43 million) and Race for Your Life Charlie Brown (43 million).”
Congratulations to Kings Island for keeping Vortex alive. Hopefully we’ll hear of it’s 50 millionth ride in the future.
Wow I cant believe it! I rode it for the first time on May 21st 2013. It was awesome!!! I rode it 2 times that day!
Always glad to have any coaster reach a milestone. I rode this coaster once on a recent visit to KI. I always ride it once on each visit. The Arrow coasters certainly played a large part in the development of the modern coaster. My first was “The Revolution” at the now defunct LibertyLand in Memphis. I find most of them to be uncomfortable as I get older. Magnum XL 200 has to be Arrows “Crown Jewel”. Congrats to KI for keeping history alive
