The A-Z Coaster of the Week is Outer Limits: Flight of Fear found at Kings Island and Kings Dominion.
Both roller coasters opened in 1996 and were the first to use Linear Induction Motors (LIMs) instead of the traditional chain lift. The Outer Limits portion of the name was dropped before the start of the 2001 season when the licensing agreement expired. The restraints were also changed in 2001, from over the shoulder harnesses to individual lap bars.
The twin Flight of Fears were manufactured by Premier and are 74 feet tall and 2,705 feet long. The launch takes three megawatts of power to accelerate the trains from zero to sixty miles per hour in less than four seconds. Linear Induction Motors use multiple sets of high powered electromagnets secured to the track and a gap is left in-between each set. Alternating current (AC) is applied to the magnets to create a magnetic field. A metal fin attached to the bottom of the train passes through the gap in the magnets while the magnetic field creates a wave for the fin to ride and propels the train forward down the track.
The Kings Dominion ride is located in the Congo section of the park while Kings Island’s is found in the X-Base area along with Firehawk.

Once they changed to lap restraints, this became a great coaster. It was very rough on the head with the over the shoulder ones.
