UK’s Camelot Theme Park Closes

Camelot Theme Park in Lancashire, England will not reopen for the 2013 season, BBC News reports. The park’s operator, Knights Leisure, cited poor summer weather and large events such as the Summer Olympics as reasons for the park’s disappointing attendance numbers this past season.

The park originally opened in 1983. At the time of its closing in September, the park was home to five coasters, the most recent being Knightmare, a relocated Schwarzkopf coaster.

No immediate plans for the park were revealed, and, at the time of this posting, the park’s website was still online and advertising 2013 family season passes.

Hopefully this is not the end of the Camelot Theme Park story. Perhaps a new owner will emerge and purchase the park and turn it in the right direction.
