Tracy, California may be a household name if this proposed theme park and entertainment project becomes a reality. And with a price tag of $1.2 billion, the project is attracting attention.
The city of Tracy, located outside of the San Francisco area, granted James Rogers and Spirit of California LLC the capability to negotiate for 628 acres of land. Spirit of California is the name of the proposed theme park.
The developers of the theme park have high expectations for the project. They expect it to outshine Disneyland to become California’s top entertainment destination.
They certainly have big shoes to fill.
Other components of the entertainment destination include a race track, casino, hotel, convention center, and other attractions. The project is still in the development stage, but the developers hope to break ground within the next two years, and have the theme park operational by 2024.

Built out by 2024? That’s quite a long time away and if they don’t plan on starting to break ground until 2014, a lot can change by then. Not many new parks have been able to stay open for very long, for example, look at Hard Rock/Freestyle Music Park. Now is not the right time to build brand new, expensive theme parks.
And to outshine Disneyland? With it not planning on opening for another 12 years, Disney could have all sorts of things planned to best that park before it even opens. At least Disney has the financial backing to do whatever they want with their parks, but where this Spirit of California is going to get that $1.2 billion is a good question.

Thanks for the information James. Sounds like a very ambitious project! We’ll be keeping our eyes on it.
Larry, I think the economy is in a better place now than it was when Hard Rock opened. But there have been numerous other theme parks proposed since then and none of them have gotten off the ground. I hope this one has more luck – I’m all for more theme parks!
Because the whole California theme just went so well with California Adventure…
Wow, the water access is going to make this a unique theme park. Can’t wait!
I am so bored of the other theme parks and have not been to them in years.
I’m sorry but this is just plain stupid. Ambitious yes, but stupid. As a lifelong resident of Tracy I assure that this will never go through. Who wants to attract more Bay Area scum than we’ve already got?
@JS
A theme park does not mean scum come to Tracy. I worked across the street from Great America in San Jose for many years, no scum there. Maybe some undesirables enter the park…as to be expected.
I think it will bring jobs, improve home values, stop the decline in small business growth, and simply having the park there to take my kids to is a huge perk.
What worries me is traffic before and after the pass.
@JS LOL… I agree and thats one of the reasons I haven’t considered moving back to Tracy. Too many Bay Area scum dragging down, what was once a family friendly community.
@Will, I’m not sure what you are thinking. Great America attracts plenty of scum bag, gangster, piece’s of crap. The only difference is that Great America is much smaller than the planned Spirit of California and no one comes from LA or any other state to visit Great America. Building a large amusement park to attract more than just locals will cause major traffic and a definite increase in crime for the residents of Tracy. It might raise property values, but lower quality of life.
I have witnessed the decline in living since the real estate crash (this includes the type of people coming to Tracy). No matter what, it will continue to follow this path until something changes. What I am thinking is, if the home values don’t start rising again, we are screwed.
Anyway, what makes you think that a trip to a fun park on the outskirts of town will bring bad people? I am worried about who LIVES in Tracy…not who stops to get gas or a quick meal.
Then “Tracy Residence” stop driving to the Bay Area for jobs!!! Stay in the central valley and work…. Oh, that’s right there is NO WORK!! Go pick a tomato, oh that’s right you don’t do that kind of work! HELLO Spirit Of California and thanks for the new jobs too…..
Hello my friend! I want to say that this article is awesome, great written and include almost all significant infos. I would like to peer extra posts like this .
Wat is the name
Accessibility is the key for me. Enough roads or trains in and out so that people aren’t waiting in line forever just to get in. Maybe a parking lot with trams that run in and out of the park. I would like to spend more time in the park than trying to get in the park.
Where can we see your master plan and what permits do you pulled as of current? Have you completed environmental impact studies yet? I noticed on your Facebook page you only have four shareholders. Are there more and are you looking for angels to fund this project? Just curious. Lived in Tracy for over 25 years.
They can’t even make up their minds about. the. Water park. What makes you think they can out do Disneyland? I have been a resident of Tracy. for. 25 years. There is no way it’s happening, Tracy is. To lame of a town to be able to pull that one off!
Holly Sugar Sports Park, then turning our favorite 18 hole pitch & putt into a full fledged golf course …….. HAHAHAHA! This is definitely NOT competing with Disneyland, it is a hodge-podge of things to do. …… I feel sorry for the folks will live next to the Motorsports Park …….. Here’s the proposed Project Site (drawn on a paper napkin, then placed on a google map) >>>>> http://www.spiritofcalifornia.com/…/SOC-site-plan…
I am hopeful in a better quality of life for all but one cannot have it all. There will always be the poor among us who for factors beyond there control have been disadvantaged to the prosperity that others enjoy. But inequality aside, we as a community, city, town are all together in this thing called freedom and humanity. Class warfare is the root of bitter and rotten souls whom have not come up to the light to dwell with those whom although poor and disadvantaged(( scum)) still know how to relax in the sunshine and warmth of Gods Love. If we are not as a human race repenting for our own wrongs then casting stones at others will certainly not bring light to those who maybe without. Christs message is Light. Pay it forward and stop the hate. All of us were were once from somewhere else. Even you!
Now I ask you this, do you really want people form outside of Tracy to think that us town folk don’t want any scum from the Bay Area to come here? Or did you mean that anyone from the Bay Area is “scum”. Or Perhaps you meant that anyone here now who came from the Bay Area is “scum” and you don’t want anymore?
I for one welcome the proposed theme park and want anyone visiting here or the Spirit of California Park to think that they are very welcome here indeed, but I know I cant have it all. There will always be those among us who are bitter, but they are not the majority of people here in the Very Friendly town of Tracy. Tracy will always remain a friendly place and population and or economic growth will not change that, if YOU for one don’t let it. We have Hope, Peace and Love. Be One with us in the hope of a bright future and entertainment park. Its all good!
Thanks lee that’s right
