California’s Great America Strikes Gold

It’s no secret that California’s Great America has been planning a Great Coasters International wooden coaster for quite some time. After an unfortunate delay, the coaster is back on track (pun intended) and is expected to open next season.

A trademark filed by Cedar Fair for the name “Gold Striker” sends a pretty clear message that the coaster will be at the very least be themed around a quest for gold (and the subtle Au symbol in the above teaser should make chemists happy).

If you still don’t believe that California’s Great America is building a wooden coaster for next season, check out the below photos that the park posted to its Facebook page:

Either that’s a wooden coaster or a very intricate Halloween maze. I’m going with the former.

It doesn’t look like much now, but remember that it will eventually look something like this.

Since the foundation looks (for the most part) complete, construction should pick up speed over the next few weeks.

I’m sure we’ll see more construction photos from the park in the near future. Thanks to California’s Great America for keeping us updated on the progress of construction.

The “golden” announcement will be made on August 29. Are you excited about “Gold Striker?” Share your thoughts in the comments section below:
