Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier Opens

Although it seems that construction just started yesterday, Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier opened to the public this Memorial Day weekend, sans a few major rides. The pier includes rides, shops and food from restaurants such as Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. The pier saw massive crowds, and it seems as though more parking spots may be needed to handle the crowds.

Admission prices were reduced as three major rides are not yet operation: the Iron Shark roller coaster, the Texas Star Flyer, and the Galaxy Wheel ferris wheel. The Iron Shark is expected to open in early June and the Texas Star Flyer should be constructed soon. Huge props to the park’s management for staying true to the promised opening date, even though some attractions weren’t quite ready.

Check out the below video from culturemap, Houston’s daily digital magazine as they tour the pier:

Although there is work left to be done, the pier looks great so far.
