Parks Utilizing Facebook Timeline

Social media has proven to be yet another outlet to connect guests with their favorite amusement parks. The new Facebook Timeline page and profile layout are giving brands (and parks) much more freedom than they’ve ever had before. Amusement parks are able to display their media in new ways and highlight important milestones in their histories. Below are just a few examples of how some parks are utilizing the new timeline feature.

Cedar Point

Cedar Point, along with many other Cedar Fair parks, often posts very enticing visual media, whether it be a beautiful shot of Maverick’s beyond-vertical first drop, or a plate of golden french fries. These photos (and sometimes videos) are usually coupled with a short sentence about spending the day at the park. They always make me crave a trip to Cedar Point!

Galveston Island Pleasure Pier

It’s  not often that America is treated to a new park, so watching the Galveston Island Pleasure Pier be built from the sea up was quite a treat. The marketing team behind the pier has done a wonderful job of documenting nearly every stage of construction. Weekly photos have been posted to the pier’s Facebook page keeping interested eyes updated on the progress of the pier.

Sesame Place

Sesame Place, a SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment property, has used the timeline functionality to highlight important milestones in the family park’s history, such as the opening of the Vapor Trail roller coaster. Also highlighted are various anniversaries and other attraction openings.

Silver Dollar City

Silver Dollar City is another park that has utilized the timeline page to document a rich history. Nearly every major attraction the park has opened is mentioned in the timeline that dates all the way back to the park’s opening in 1960. The park also utilizes their page to promote festivals and musical entertainment.

Six Flags Great America

Six Flags Great America had plenty to talk about during the off season with the construction of X-Flight, but in March the park engaged their fans with a March Madness Coaster Showdown. The park’s most popular coasters went head to head for the top spot (Raging Bull won). The park will also regularly hide goodies such as exit passes around the park for Facebook users to find. It’s all about engagement!

There are many more parks that are doing interesting things with the new Facebook Timeline. Do you have a favorite? Share in the comments section below!
