Silverwood Celebrates 25 Years

Silverwood Theme Park & Boulder Beach Waterpark is known as the largest amusement and water park in the northwestern United States, but it didn’t earn that title overnight. This year the park is celebrating its 25th year of operation.

A statement from the park reads: “Silverwood will open its gate again Saturday, May 5th, beginning a year of celebration. In 1987, when the Henley Aerodrome & Museum of Transportation was still under construction, Gary Norton wondered whether anyone would actually pay to visit his creation, located in a remote area of North Idaho.”

I think it’s safe to say that more than a few of his close friends have visited Silverwood over the past quarter of a century. 8.5 million guests have passed through the gates since the park opened in 1988.

Norton’s original showcase of “vintage planes, trains and automobiles” has transformed into a mega theme and water park featuring 65 rides, slides and other attractions.

Silverwood will open for the season on May 5, 2012.
