BomBora Media Day

New at Lagoon park in 2011 is BomBora, a surf themed family roller coaster. BomBora, a term which means a confluence of waves, is Lagoon’s ninth coaster. The ride has two 16-passenger trains with  lighting effects and on-board audio which blasts surfer themed music such as “Wipe Out.” Lagoon organized a few companies and individuals to produce the ride at a cost of over five million dollars. The theoretical hourly ride capacity (THRC) is approximately 950 riders per hour. BomBora occupies a space towards the back of the park which is 100 by 200 feet.

Under 36" may not ride.

Overview of the ride.

Top speed 31 mph.

Rounding the final turn.

Station and queue from the midway.

Tire driven lift. Also notice the lack of the traditional anti-roll back racks.

Nicely themed ride.

Track length of 1,040 feet.

BomBora is one of the best family sized coasters I have been on. I can think of a lot of smaller parks that could easily use a very  similar ride. The lift hill is very quiet due to the tire drives and and lack of the traditional anti-roll back devices. The ride is very smooth and provides some fun forces. BomBora is very re-rideable thanks to the comfortable seats and should easily be able to accommodate a wide range of riders. The on-board audio adds to the fun too. Lagoon has a real winner on their hands!

Thanks again to Lagoon for inviting Coaster101 to experience one of the best little coasters around! Lagoon is now open weekends and if you have the chance you should go ride Bombora yourself.
