What’s next for Disney California Adventure?

We know the current re-imagineering and expansion of Disney California Adventure should be completed by 2013. But according to many, there will still be a considerable amount of work left to do to further complete the park’s metamorphosis. The LATimes recently listed some of the possible additions and changes the park will see after “Phase 1” of Disney California Adventure’s makeover is complete. This is pure speculation, but we cannot rule them out as possibilities.

Some of the interesting possibilities for the Paradise Pier area include “an E-Ticket ride next to California Screamin’, with an entrance in the helix of the roller coaster track leading to a new backstage attraction,” a ” D- or E-Ticket attraction in the other helix where Maliboomer once stood. The area is currently being turned into a character meet-and-greet location. The tacky strip mall-themed Man Hat n’ Beach souvenir shop facade likely remains unchanged in anticipation of this forthcoming attraction,”

The transformation of Mullholland Madness into Goofy’s Sky School may only be a temporary fix. According to the article, an early concept for a replacement included a Ratatouille coaster.

Hollywoodland will likely undergo some changes as well. Some of the more interesting possibilities include an “E-Ticket attraction in the former ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire – Play It’ sound stage. The MuppetVision 3D movie might be replaced by something such as Magic Kingdom’s Mickey’s PhilharMagic show.

A possibility for future expansion includes the former Condor Flats and Golden State lands combining “to form a single land themed to a 1950s-era Yosemite-like national park.”

The Grizzly River Rapids would receive “animatronic bears, condors and other creatures once envisioned for the raft ride. Animatronic characters under construction for the Grizzly Trail area at Hong Kong Disneyland would fit perfectly.”

I’m not sure about this one due to the limited amount of space but A train could travel “around Grizzly Peak as envisioned in concept art featured in the ‘Disney Mountains: Imagineering at its Peak’ book.”

I believe the Soarin’ attraction is due for an upgrade: “The Soarin’ Over California hang-gliding tour makes way for the long-awaited Soarin’ Over the World replacement.”

Even though Cars Land hasn’t opened yet, there will be small areas within the area open for expansion. A C- or D- ticket attraction could occupy one of these spaces as well as a Drive-In-themed restaurant.

The transformation of Disney California Adventure will hopefully continue should this current expansion prove profitable for Disney execs.
