Christmas Events: Six Flags Holiday in the Park

The Christmas season is upon us and now is a great time to visit your local park (if it is open) to check out the seasonal Christmas-in-the-park events. These events are usually found at parks with mild winters, but some colder parks are beginning to extend operating seasons for Christmas events. We’re going to showcase some of our favorite Christmas-themed park events, and then at the end of the month you’ll be able to vote for your favorite. Feel free to use the comment system to suggest some of your favorite Christmas events.

First up we have Six Flags’ Holiday in the Park which can be found at Six Flags Over Texas, Fiesta Texas, and Discovery Kingdom. All three parks’ events run on select days until January 2, 2011.

Six Flags Fiesta Texas

Ice skating is a great activity for the entire family during the Christmas season. At Six Flags Fiesta Texas, you’ll be “one of the first to experience modern iceless skating in South Texas at the all-new “Frostee’s Skating Rink,” housed in a large indoor location in Spassburg. Lace up a pair of skates and glide through a wonderland adorned with glittering lights and brimming with holiday spirit! (Skates provided; must be at least 36″ to participate.)

It’ll be hard to miss the 60-foot tree in the Rockville section of the park which will accompany a daily tree lighting ceremony, and kids will love being able to meet Santa at Santa’s Castle.

A number of the park’s major attractions are open during the holiday event, including Goliath, Boomerang, Big Spin, and Scream. Click here for more information on Six Flags Fiesta Texas’ Holiday in the Park.

Six Flags over Texas

Six Flags over Texas features the Holiday Tree of Trees Light Spectacular: “Don’t miss this truly unique holiday spectacular! Towering nearly 60 feet over Star Mall, 70 Christmas trees trimmed with thousands of lights, dance magically with computerized precision. Choreographed to majestic holiday scores, The Holiday Tree of Trees will become a must see family tradition.  The Holiday Tree of Trees comes to life nightly. The first lighting will be at 6:30 p.m. with shows every hour on the half hour.”

The park also features SantaLand where kids can visit Santa at his workshop. Kids will also get a kick out of Frosty Snow Hill, Six Flags over Texas’ very own snow sledding hill. Many major rides at the park are open such as Titan and Tony Hawk’s Big Spin.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom sums up their version of Holiday in the Park well: “Holiday in the Park featuring the Best in Land, Sea and SNOW is back with new shows and all of your favorite nighttime festivities.  Meet Santa and Mrs. Claus at Santa’s Workshop, visit our various winter wonderlands like Candy Cane Lane and the Christmas Tree Forest.”

Like Six Flags over Texas, kids can meet Santa as well as playing in Frosty Snow Hill, a snow play area.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is also home to Christmas Tree Forest where you can “walk past a dazzling display of lighted trees and take in the fresh aroma.”

Each of these parks’ events are different and unique. Do you have a favorite out of the three? Let us know!
