Trip Report: Fright Fest at SFOG

I spent the day at Six Flags over Georgia yesterday and was somewhat disappointed in the park’s Fright Fest compared to my last Fright Fest visit at Six Flags Great America. While the two parks are very different, I felt Georgia’s display was very lacking in several areas compared to Great America’s. There were relatively few masked creatures roaming the park, very few haunted attractions, and even less decorations. Now I don’t know how much of this affected by the bankruptcy, but it seemed like the park had downsized in the Fright Fest department.

The park overall was nice, though. Despite several coasters being closed (Ninja, Mine Train, Georgia Cyclone, and Coyote), most of the rides at the park were operating. Most of the ride ops were dispatching efficiently, especially on Goliath. Dispatches were slow on Superman: Ultimate Flight until a second train was added which helped speed up the line.

I was impressed with how clean the “flood-prone” area of the park was after last month’s flooding event. Despite for a few water lines on Great American Scream Machine’s supports, the ride and surrounding area was generally clean. One op told us that the water was waist deep in the station. It’s hard to believe that so soon after it is operating again. Kudos to you, Six Flags.

Now onto the photos:

As I approached the park, I was greeted by a towering Goliath. Hello there!

The park has a very charming entrance area.

Waiting in line for our tickets provided me with a great photo opportunity!

The once-mighty Georgia Scorcher literally stands in the shadows of Goliath.

Which is taller?

Unfortunately, the Fright Fest decorations didn’t go too far past the banners.

This is what we’re here for!

The park changes in elevation frequently, providing one with great shots such as this.

Unfortunately, Ninja was closed the entire day.

Looking a bit faded there, Superman!

Luckily the faded paint had no effect on the ride experience!

I was really bummed Ninja was closed, it looked like a neat looper.

Nothing can take down the Great American Scream Machine, not even water! The water line can barely be seen near the bottom of the support structure.

Snickers was really feeling “frightful” this year!

A ride operator told us that water had flooded the station area for Great American Scream Machine.

This final bunny hill can really surprise you if you’re sitting in the back!

The “catcher” makes its descent to pick up another group of terrified riders on Acrophobia.

It wouldn’t be a trip to Six Flags over Georgia without this iconic shot!

I don’t believe I’ve ever eaten mexican food at a Six Flags park. I’ll have to try it next time!

Gotham City, here I come!

Crime Wave… one of my favorite flat ride names of all time.

Mindbender was the surprise on the trip for me. I wasn’t expecting it to be the blast that it was. I really enjoyed it.

This is a really well-themed Gotham City!

It wouldn’t be Gotham City without some Batman!

Time to take a stroll down Gotham City Park. I wish every city park ended with an awesome B&M invert!

One of the few “monsters” I saw during the day. He looks lost.

I’ll leave you with this question: are they rising or falling? Thanks for reading this trip report!
